In Arizona, Mexican cuisine is royalty. Whether you’re craving authentic south-of-the-border flavors or that staple Arizona-fusion twist, there are endless options sure to satisfy. Start at Tortas de Fuego, a little colorful kitchen serving the real deal. Keep it simple and get the street tacos or tostados, and if you want it caliente, this is the place to heat things up.

The Javelina Cantina is a favorite with a massive menu, strong drinks, and a lively crowd. Specials include the carne asada tacos with fresh avocado and queso fresco, fajita chimichangas smothered in queso sauce, and the rotisserie chicken and goat cheese enchiladas. The Javelina Margarita is the only one on the menu for a reason. Give it a shot, if you dare!

Mex Done Right

Café Jose Restaurant is low-key and dishes up the perfect blend of Mexican-American fusion. Try their homemade chili cheese fries with house sour cream and guac. The tortas gigantes are Mexican-style sandwiches, available as a Cubano, Hawaiiana and Mexicana. However, it’s Mom’s Homemade Meatloaf that really draws the crowd, a secret recipe that’s highly addictive.

The 89Agave Cantina has Sonoran-style Mexican fare where you have to try the salsa flight with tajin-dusted corn chips. Salsa verde, blackened tomato, grilled pineapple, and salsa reposado are just four of the delicious tastings on deck. With this eclectic selection, the only problem is where to stop first.
