Our community library is right next door. It’s a beautiful building with leaded glass windows created by a local artist. From November 9-19th the library is hosting its annual Festival Of Wreaths. This year the wreath styles run from the traditional to my favorite, a wreath made of items found along the highway.

Thanksgiving is a time for families, reflection and gratitude for our many blessing. The Sedona Arts Center (SAC to the locals) is having an exhibit entitled “Abundance”. Mediums represented include pastels, fabric quilts, silver and gold jewelry, and clay.

November 20th is the opening night of Red Rock Fantasy. Red Rock Fantasy has been a part of the Sedona community for 18 years. The festival is open each evening from 4:00-10:00pm. The cost is $6/adults $4/children and for seniors $5. The proceeds benefit numerous charities here in Sedona including the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Arizona. This is a great event for all members of your family.

Many restaurants in Sedona offer live music on the weekends. These include Bistro Bella Terra, Cucina Rustica, Dahl and DiLuca, Martini Bar, Shugrue’s and Oak Creek Brewing Company.

November 17 the Mystery Book Club meets at the Well Red Coyote and on Friday, the author of “Running With Strangers” will discuss her book. There is always something going on a the Well Red Coyote.

Another place to expand your mind is the Sedona Creative Life Center. Subjects to be covered beginning November 19 are “Transforming Challenges into Blessings”, “My Stroke of Insignt”, “Marking Changes Workshop”…please visit their website for details

When you visit Sedona, keep in mind that we have a free shuttle. It is a most relaxing way to get around town.

We have noticed an increase in the number of guests asking about gluten-free restaurants. November is Gluten-Free Awareness Month so we are paying attention to this.

Every Monday, the Sedona Heritage Museum offers a demostration on old-time crafts and skills. Usually you are asked to bring your own apron, mixing bowl and mixing spoon! Sometimes a needle and thread.

After a week like this one, it is no wonder why so many of our guests are coming to the Southwest Inn, just to get away from “it” all, to take a break and reconnect with reality. One week ago, on Friday-our own Tayrn Crispo correctly predicted that the Sedona Halloween weekend would become a huge event, which was a bold statement when you consider the stock market was crashing. But, then on the heels of a record number of reservations, we began purchasing our favorite stocks: Apple, which runs our lobby “info-net”; and, Google, who loves our website. Monday followed with the largest gains in the history of the stock market, only to be followed by incredible up and down volatile swings.

Early in the week, a New York State Tax Court held that a retired lawyer could not deduct from his taxes $322,000 spent on prostitutes, pornography, and sex toys. William Halby, 77, told the court that he used “sex therapy” to help battle the depression of the economy, and that in his opinion the expenditures qualified as legitimate medical expenses. Judge Brian Friedman, unsympathetically noted that prostitution in New York is not only unrecognized as a medical necessity, but that it is against the law!

Later in the week, Bloomberg’s Ann Woolner unraveled the new bankruptcy laws by stating, “it’s easier to hold onto a second home at the beach–and a boat to go with it–than your home sweet home.” Ms. Woolner’s advice: “Buy a Beach House for Shelter When Going Bankrupt”.

Finally, on Friday, Warren Buffett informed the world in a New York Times editorial that he was buying American stocks. Stating, “A simple rule dictates my buying: Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful. And most certainly, fear is now widespread, gripping even seasoned investors”.

Our Advice: come up, or down to the Southwest Inn at Sedona, and take a hike out to a rock, clear your head, and reconnect to the reality that surrounds us all !!

On Monday, August 25, 2008, the Southwest Inn at Sedona will launch its new website, which will post daily news, upcoming events, along with many useful guides to enhance our guests experience of Sedona

The Sunday, August 24th, 2008 issue of The New York Times has a feature article on the popularity of Lake Powell, which is less than 2 hours from the Southwest Inn at Sedona.

Presidential candidate Senator John McCain calls Sedona, AZ. his western home, where is frequently seen sipping his Starbucks coffee. Senator and Mrs. McCain’s ranch is just around the bend from the Southwest Inn at Sedona, and is the location of one of our most scenic bike rides.
