You’ll find plenty of ways to celebrate the life and work of Dr. King during the month of January, especially if you take a short day trip to Phoenix. Start the weekend on Friday morning at 7 a.m. at the Phoenix Convention Center for the MLK Awards Breakfast. It’s where local leaders who are “living the dream” are honored at a decadent breakfast. All proceeds go to the Arizona Opportunities Industrialization Center, including scholarships awarded to area students.

The annual Dr. Martin Luther King MLK March and Festival kicks off at 8:30 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Phoenix for the 9 a.m. march. The festival continues at Margaret T. Hance Park at 10 a.m., free for all attendees. Don’t miss out on this fun-filled gathering.
